INTRODUCING THE NEW ASI MWS-PRO

The “Mini Weather Station PRO” is a new “Weather Alert” device from ASI. Key features include alerts for “Storm Watch” and “Storm Warning” with predictions updated every 5 minutes. The current tendency is shown as 1 of 6 weather conditions: Storm, Precip, Cloudy, Change, Fair, or Clear. The LED’s are color coded for each condition. If the conditions are changing then the next LED will start blinking, letting you know which way the weather is heading! The pressure direction is shown as Rising, Dropping or Steady. If the pressure is changing rapidly the corresponding LED with blink. If Storm conditions are favorable then the appropriate Forecasting LED with light to indicate either “Storm Watch” or “Storm Warning.” The unit operates independently and requires no outside connection.

Using a 4 digit display and a Bosch precision pressure sensor the Mini Weather station is excellent at detecting weather changes. Setup is as simple as entering your elevation and the Mini Weather Station does the rest. The unit will retain the elevation even if power is lost. The current pressure is displayed in realtime. Pressing the “SELECT” Button will switch between inHg and Mb. Pressing the “SET” button will display the current “Forecast Index” and then the “Chance of Precipitation” based on the last 60 pressure records! The unit will also show the 3 Hour pressure change. This new feature shows you the 3 hour pressure change in both inHg and MB. This feature is excellent for determining how much the pressure has change in the last 3 hours.

Once the hourly data builds the MWS can predict the future forecast. The Forecast Index (FI) function does just that. For example, if the current condition is “Precip” but the pressure has been rising for several hours then the (FI) will be high, say 7 and the % Chance of Precipitation will be low since the unit detects that a storm is moving away. The (FI) and the % Chance of Precipitation are inversely correlated. So a low (FI) will have a high % Chance of Precipitation and a high (FI) will have a low % Chance of Precipitation. The (FI) is from 0-9 and % Chance of Precipitation is from 0% to 90%. A low (FI) forecasts bad weather and a high (FI) forecasts good weather.

Monitoring weather conditions is easy. If the pressure is rising then the (BLUE RISE LED) will light. If the pressure is falling then the (YELLOW DROP LED) will light. If there is a rapid increase or decrease in pressure then the corresponding LED will blink meaning weather changes are coming! If the pressure is trending down then the (YELLOW STORM WATCH LED) will light and if storm conditions are favorable then the (PURPLE STORM WARNING LED) will light. The WMS-PRO can also detect when conditions are improving and the (GREEN IMPROVING LED) will light. Multiple notifications may happen at once. For example, it is possible for the DROP LED and WARNING LED to be lit at once. The MWS-PRO includes upgradeable firmware for future features and updates. Each unit is calibrated.
